Established in the 16th century, Vilnius University stands as one of the oldest educational institutions in Central and Eastern Europe. Nestled within the Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University is the Turkish Language Center, which underwent renovation in 2021 with support from TİKA, boasting a modernized classroom and office space.
Staffed by two local instructors and one Turkish lecturer, the Turkish Language Center is dedicated to serving four distinct student demographics:
Faculty of Philosophy, Institute of Asian and Intercultural Studies, Department of Middle Eastern Studies
This program endeavors to offer comprehensive education covering Turkish language, culture, sociology, history, religion, art, and literature. Aligned with the Institute for Asian and Intercultural Studies, students partake in Turkish language classes totaling 8 hours per week, supplemented by courses taught in Lithuanian and English.
Students enrolled in the Lithuanian Language Department at the Faculty of Philology
With a primary focus on Lithuanian language studies, students have the option to diversify their curriculum by selecting a foreign language. Opting for Turkish entails attending 6 to 8 hours of weekly courses covering Turkish language, history, and literature, alongside their core Lithuanian language studies.
University and Erasmus Students
University students have the opportunity to enroll in elective Turkish courses, consisting of 4 hours per week. Similarly, Erasmus students are welcome to partake in Turkish language classes.
External Learners
Individuals keen on acquiring Turkish language skills beyond the university's confines can access Turkish language courses provided by the Faculty of Philology or the Institute of Asian and Intercultural Studies. These courses may be accessed through payment or, in some instances, by attending evening classes free of charge.
